Something unique happened to a man who was diving out to sea. A sperm whale “asked” for his assistance.
The enormous creatures known as sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) may reach lengths of up to 55 feet. They are huge, yet they are also weak. Scientists say these whales’ brains are the biggest of any known living thing.

This whale’s intellect may have made it possible to seek a diver for assistance. Large amounts of spermaceti are also present in the skulls of sperm whales. Even though they are enormous, these whales are kind and only eat squid they discover when they descend to the ocean’s depths.
Hugues Vitry is the diver. A well-known environmentalist and underwater photographer from Mauritius takes out a tiny fish hook from the whale’s lower jaw.
Vitry is the vice president of the Marine Megafauna Conservation Organization and manages the diving centre.
Once, he liberated a whale that was tied in ropes. Vitry works to protect and preserve marine life, believing one individual may have a significant impact.
In addition, he cautions against accepting the word of the media on the seas. Even with his experience, this was really remarkable.
The whale swims close to Vitry, moving its huge body sideways before opening its jaw to show the diver that she needed help. One small hook caused this huge whale discomfort. Imagine what huge objects could do.
Vitry focuses his camera on the whale as it swims beside him, explaining what’s happening. It’s lovely to observe. Vitry claims to have seen blood. The translation is not perfect, but he claims that he could extract the hook from the whale’s mouth by using some force because it was attached to its tooth. The giant animal never lost its composure.
The finest part is right here. Even Vitry appeared amazed when he tried to convince the whale that everything was finished; it seemed to stay for a while. It appeared as though the whale was praising him in return! This viewer, who appeared to comprehend Vitry’s French, says it.
“For those interested, the guy (an overseas French, I’d say Reunionnais but he could from another island) talks about how strange it was to see this sperm whale come to them with its open mouth yet unagressively, how he saw that its mouth was bleeding, and how after the hook was removed he took a little time to try to make the whale understand it was over, hugged it, and how the sperm whale stood by for a while after that, showing signs that could be interpreted as gratitude.” Whales are highly intelligent creatures.
Vitry even hugged the whale as he pressed his head against hers and whispered words of comfort.
