We are honoured to offer a touching account of bravery and compassion that just occurred and emphasized the outstanding deeds of a common hero.
Ervin Ruhe, an Amazon delivery driver in the Central Valley of California, encountered an event that would change his life while making his usual deliveries. He observed a burning car by the side of the road as he was travelling. He arrived at the startling scene where a man was frantically attempting to extricate his wife from the flaming car due to distress pleas for help. Their cherished puppy was still confined to the back seat, making the precarious scenario even worse.
Ruhe only thought once before acting. With amazing daring, he reached for the fire extinguisher he always kept in his delivery vehicle. He braved the fire and pushed it back just far enough to reach the terrified dog. Ruhe saved the dog in an act of great heroism, ensuring its safety and that of the family.
Ruhe described his bravery in a video: “I just used a fire extinguisher on it and got the dog out of the back for the owners, and the owners are safe.” He quickly contacted 911 to ensure further assistance was on the way.
Amazon commended Ruhe for his unselfish deeds after noticing his extraordinary bravery. We are really appreciative of Ervin for going above and above and assisting a member of the community and their pet while in need, said Navneet Kaur, Senior Regional Manager for Amazon Delivery Station. The ownership and willingness to go above and beyond to assist someone in need is remarkable to see.
Ruhe maintained his modesty despite being lauded as a hero, saying only, “I just wanted to do the right thing and be a good citizen. After realizing they needed assistance, I swiftly took action to do all I could.
Ervin Ruhe’s courageous deeds serve as a reminder of the tremendous bravery that regular individuals can exhibit in dire circumstances. In addition to saving a life, his bravery and altruism are inspiring examples of the difference one can make when one decides to step up and make a difference. Thank you for your tremendous bravery and kindness, Ervin Ruhe; you truly are a hero.
